A headline salary is only one part of an offer. Convert every proposal into the same monthly or hourly basis and identify which benefits are guaranteed in writing.
Build a comparable pay picture
Record whether the figure is gross or net, the pay period, guaranteed weekly hours and expected working days. Then list overtime rules, Sunday or public-holiday treatment, tips, service charge, commission, bonus and any deductions.
Treat tips and discretionary bonuses separately from guaranteed pay. Ask when wages are paid and request a sample calculation of common deductions if the employer can provide one.
Hours, rest and split shifts
Hospitality schedules can change with occupancy and events. Ask for the normal rota, how far ahead it is published, how shift changes are communicated, how working time is recorded and who approves overtime.
A long gap between two work periods can make a split shift consume most of a day even if paid hours look reasonable. Include travel time and transport availability when comparing the arrangement.
Benefits have terms too
Meals, accommodation, transport, uniform cleaning, health cover and training can be valuable, but confirm whether they are free, subsidised or deducted. Ask whether they continue on days off, during sickness and after the season ends.
If an important benefit is not in the contract or written offer, ask for written confirmation. Keep the final version you accepted.
