Getting hired in hospitality

Build a clear application, show evidence of service skills and use the interview to verify the role as carefully as the employer verifies you.

Hospitality hiring often moves quickly. A focused CV, reliable communication and specific examples are more useful than a long generic application.

Make the first page do the work

Put the target role, location, availability, work permission and useful languages near the top. For each recent job, name the property or outlet type, your responsibilities and one or two concrete indicators of scale or responsibility.

Use a simple file name and readable layout. Check phone, email and dates. If a photo, age or other personal detail is not required for a legitimate process, decide carefully whether it adds anything to your application.

Prepare evidence, not slogans

Replace “hard-working team player” with a short example: handling a guest complaint, organising a busy station, learning a booking system, keeping rooms to standard or supporting a new colleague.

Prepare examples for reliability, service recovery, pressure, teamwork and safety. Be honest about systems or languages you are still learning; explain how you learn quickly.

Interview the job too

Ask who you report to, why the role is open, the normal shift, team size, training, contract dates and next step. For relocation, add work permission, accommodation, transport and arrival support.

Verify messages that move unexpectedly to private chat, request money, avoid a company-domain contact or offer a job without a meaningful discussion. A genuine employer should be willing to identify the business and put final terms in writing.

  • Role-focused CV
